Congratulations to Dame Jayne Torvill and Sir Christopher Dean

On behalf of the whole of Nottinghamshire, I am delighted to extend my warmest congratulations to Dame Jayne Torvill and Sir Christopher Dean, who today received their Damehood and Knighthood from His Majesty The King.

This richly deserved recognition honours not only their extraordinary achievements in ice skating—which have brought pride and international acclaim to our county—but also their longstanding commitment to voluntary service and to inspiring generations across the United Kingdom and beyond.

From their iconic Olympic triumph to their enduring influence on sport and the arts, Dame Jayne and Sir Christopher have exemplified excellence, dedication and partnership at the very highest level. They remain true ambassadors for Nottinghamshire, embodying the talent, character and community spirit for which our county is so well known.

Their contributions extend far beyond the rink. Through their charitable work, mentorship, and continued support for community initiatives, they have made a lasting and meaningful difference to the lives of many.

Today’s honour is a fitting tribute to their remarkable legacy. It is a moment of great pride for Nottinghamshire, and I know that communities across the county join me in celebrating this special achievement.

Congratulations once again to Dame Jayne and Sir Christopher on this significant and well-earned honour.
